Submitted by Gimper on Sun, 08/12/2007 - 12:18.

Wondering how you make those web 2.0ish button you see every where? well here is how you do it in gimp.
first download the 30 "Ultimate Web 2.0 Layer Styles for Gimp"we will use the pre-made gradients from that to get the effect.

Here are some examples of what you can make with the
With pre-made Gradients pack.

Step:
1) create a new image and a new Layer and name it button, select the "rectangle selection tool" and create a button size rectangle.

2) Now if you installed the "30 Ultimate Web 2.0 Layer Styles for Gimp" select the "Web 2.0 Brown Gloss" Gradient, Grab the Fill tool and place it bellow the rectangle and drag from bottom to top.

You should have something like the example below,Add some text and your Done!

Play with different gradients from the"30 Ultimate Web 2.0 Layer Styles for Gimp" pack and rounded selection feature to get different shapes and color styles.

If your have trouble using the Gradient fill tool or anything els feel free to ask in the Forum and i will be glad to help out.
Feedback always appreciated :)

Submitted by Gimper on Tue, 08/28/2007 - 01:37.if your very new to gimp you might want to find a tutorial on how to use the tools, since this tutorial doesn't intend to teach you how to draw a rectangle or how to use the gradient fill, its only trying to show you how to use the pre-made gradient to archive the glassy effect.
how do you get the rounded edges?

Submitted by Visitor on Fri, 11/09/2007 - 23:22.OK maybe this is a dumb question but how do I just make it a button without the white background? When I delete the background layer and save it, it doesn't save just the button but also a white background. I'd appreciate the help!

to get smooth lines avoid from applying the gradient more than once if you make a mistake or want to try another color Press CTRL+Z to go back and then apply it. that way you get clean smooth edges.

you need to adjust the Corner roundness found in the "tools option dialog" . you must have the selection tool selected for the options to show up in the "tools option dialog". hope that helped.
