Gimp-tutorials.net Redesigned!

Months in the works and it's finally finished!, Yep Gimp-tutorials.net has finely received a full redesign. the process was long with many setbacks along the way, I got scammed $200 by a freelancer and a few database corruption which forced me to work 20 hours+ none stop!... but enough with the whining now. lets talk about the new changes...

The layout design is much better than the old one with centred content which is great for following tutorials, also borders have been added around tutorial images, better sized titles and many more small design changes that you might notice as along the way.

Contribute

Members can now contribute to gimp-tutorials,net by submitting tutorials, GIMP news or design related articles If it meets the guidelines.

As an incentive to users who contribute, you will be given two back links to you're blog or site and also given ad space where you can insert your google adsense or any banner of you're liking as long as it's appropriate at the button of your article.

Gimp-tutorials.net receives decent amount of traffic (2000/day average) so it's a nice way to get noticed and help out other GIMP users at the same time. here is the traffic stats from google analytics:

Featured tutorials from the Web section

On the front page we have a new section for featured GIMP tutorials, users can submit their tutorial links with brief description and thumbnail about the tutorial for others to see.

User Points

User points has also been added. the system works by giving registered users points for contributing, the point system is set as the following:

  • 10 point for contributing a tutorial on gimp-tutorials.net
  • 5 points for articles & news.
  • 2 Points for sharing you external tutorial
  • 1 point for comments.

Forum integration

The forum was originally going to be fully themed to match gimp-tutorials.net but with David busy with his studies it didn't look like it could be done soon.

What I did manage to do is integrate "top poster" and "new forum posts" which I think will help the forum section by attracting new users.

New Brushes Section

Some of you might know already that I've been working on another site in the past few months called Qbrushes.com It's a photoshop brushes site but since GIMP supports PS brushes too I've removed the old brushes section with this new one that pulls new brushes from Qbrushes.com.

Recent tutorials,Popular content,Recent Brushes

Not entirely new but nice addition to gimp-tutorials.net's layout. In the old site I actually use to maintain it manually my self but now it's on auto pilot.

Big Thanks

Big thanks to everyone for sticking around especially members who continuously go out of their way to help other users and of course to all the moderators for helping out with the forum :).

Be sure to vote using the poll in the sidebar and let me know what you think of the redesign.
