I dl'd them, you have to save them, extract the entire thing, and THEN you can copy the .apr file into your gimp brushes folder.

Here's what you need to do:

Go to the folder where you installed GIMP. For me, it would be My Computer > C: > Program Files > GIMP-2.0.
After, double-click on "share" and then "gimp" and then "2.0" and finally... the folder named "brushes."

Copy and paste the brushes into there. :D

OK, I have been trying like crazy to get these splatter brushes to show up on my gimp brushes list. So far, I have downloaded the rarlab unzip program and the brushes files. And the files are in my gimp brushes folder, and they seem to be unzipped. I can see the actual brush when I look at that particular file. But the brushes do not show up in my bushes when in gimp. I never did see a list of .abr files at any stage of this??? So, to start from the beginning, when you first download the brushes as a zip file, and you hit save, where exactly do you save them to at that point, so you can unzip them and find the .abr files to put into the gimp brushes file? The only video I can find on this is for Macs or Vista, can't tell which for sure, and I have XP.

unzip the .rar file to your desktop and copy the .abr brush file to
C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\brushes

thats it

that's why you don't unzip .abr files you just place them in GIMP's brushes folder and they show up in GIMP

Finally, I figured out a way to get brushes into my Gimp on my computer. What I do is download the brush set to the desktop, I already have winrar on my computer so I get a winrar icon with the brush set name on desktop. Then I open up the desktop icon with the new download, and click open the brush file list, and also open up a new window with the gimp bushes folder opened up in it. I also have gimp open, btw. So now I can click on each separate brush, look at it, and if I like it I drag and drop it into the gimp brush folder. This is the only way I have figured out that works for me, and it also lets me pick and choose from the set. And since gimp is open when I do this, I go into gimp brushes dialog and click the little refresh icon at the bottom right. The new brushes will pop in, and you can instantly see the slider bar on the right resize itself.

I'm a new user of GIMP, and I love it so far.

I followed your instructions (download, extract, put in appropriate folder), and they installed just fine. They work great.

Pretty cool brushes. Thanks!
